Phil Heath, nicknamed “the gift” for his amazing genetics and structure, has been rising in the IFBB ranks rapidly. Phil was born December 18, 1979 in Seattle, WA. He now resides in Arvada, CO. Earlier Phil Heath played on the University of Denver (Div.1-A) Men’s Basketball team (1998-2002) as a point/shooting guard for the Pioneer’s. Not many people would have guessed this basketball star would later turn into a professional bodybuilder.
“After my basketball career was over, I continued to train, but now with new guys who in fact where into bodybuilding. I never thought of myself as a bodybuilder, but did see myself quite muscular for a ‘hoopster’, so I gave it a try.” Phil Heath began working out and noticing major improvements in short amounts of time, as well as his friends.
Phillip started training for my first contest (NPC Northern CO. 2003) on October 8, 2002. His own pre contest photographs were taken with a digital camera that he bought himself. “I continued to do this because it allowed me to view my physique and make adjustments in my training according to my shape and proportion. I felt that the pictures would never lie and they would keep me motivated into being a better bodybuilder day after day.” Phil began his bodybuilding journey at 185lbs and grew into 215lbs with 6% bodyfat. He competed at the ‘Northern’ as a 192lbs light-heavyweight. Phil took the novice and open classes, winning the overall men’s title. He states that after that win, he was hooked on bodybuilding for good.
Phil Heath has recently placed second at the Arnold Classic and as high as third place at the Mr. Olympia competition, bodybuilding’s highest competition. Phil Heath is good friends with the current and 3-time Mr. Olympia title holder, Jay Cutler. At the last Mr. Olympia competition, Phil Heath said to have had a stomach virus that made him throw up multiple times during the night, leaving him more than 10 pounds under weight. He is signed with MetRX as his supplement company and with Flex Magazine.
