Vitamins are minerals and different substances that you can obtain from food or supplements that help your body function and grow properly. Each vitamin, separated by names such as Vitamin C, D, E, K, etc provides a different bennificial effect on the body. Some foods do not contain all the nessisary vitamins that the body may need, thus bodybuilders and people just trying to live healthy may take a daily multivitamin as a little insurance policy.

Effects of specific vitamins:

  • Vitamin A – Helps aid growth, prevents infection, fertility, and bone cellsvitamins
  • Vitamin D – Aids calcium absoption, helps bone formation, activates alkaline phosphates in kidney, intestine, and bone
  • Vitamin E – Prevents sterility, needed for fetal developement, essential for muscle functionality
  • Vitamin K – Helps Oxidative phosphorylation, bile salt absoption
  • Vitamin B1 – Required for the oxidation of sugar in the brain and tissues, helps the enzyme system to synthesize fats from carbohydrates and proteins
  • Vitamin B2 – Essential for growth, tissue oxidation, and metabolism of carbohydrates, fat, and protein
  • Vitamin B6 – Helps metabolism of tryptophan, unsarated fatty acids, and sunthesis of fats from carbohydrates and proteins.
  • Vitamin B12 – Required for forming red blood cells, synthesising nucleic acid, maintaining activity and stability of the nervous system, and increases the white cell count
  • Vitamin C – Helps metabolise carbohydrates, wound repair, and relates to the sythesis of steroid hormone.

Vitamins, however, may be toxic if taken in high doses. A once a day multivitamin contains what the average person’s daily vitamin needs are estimated at in the form of a pill. Taking one of these daily is recommended as the body might not get the needed nutrients from certain food choices.
